You are not going to die if you eat cooked food!

I don’t watch T.V. often but I’ve seen a show called Bizarre Foods where this guy Andrew Zimmern travels the world, eating extremely gross foods that are common in different countries. When I first saw the show several years ago, I figured that either the show would be cancelled, or the host would be dead by now. The funny thing is, Andrew is a little overweight as expected, but he is certainly not dead. I still find it very amusing that he can eat the grossest things in the world, but the one food he couldn’t eat was durian, one of the best tasting fruits in the world.

My point is this. You are not going to die if you eat cooked food! The human body is amazing and too many people today are getting stressed out by every tiny bit of food that touches their lips. Yes, the food you eat is important, but if the stress of trying to be healthy is going to create more harm than the actual foods you are trying to avoid, then it may not be worth it. I laugh when I see raw fooders question whether the cashew they ate was truly raw or if the nori sheet is toasted. If you are eating 98% raw foods, that little amount isn’t going to bother you. It may just keep you sane. Stop worrying so much and enjoy your life.

I myself have spent many years stressed about what touches my body, let alone what goes in it, but after doing a lot of research, I’ve come up with the conclusion that we are all going to die someday no matter what we do. That is no excuse to treat our body badly and live unhealthy, but it is a reason to chill out and enjoy yourself. If you can eat a 100% raw food diet great, but if it is too stressful, cooked food is not going to kill you. It’s okay to eat cooked food. If cooked food really killed us, we would all be dead ☺. It’s overeating any food, whether cooked or raw, that does us in!

I am a history buff. I love to study people from the 1700’s and 1800’s. Especially people who shared the same passion I have about health, diet and the Bible. It is so interesting in all my research of the history of the people I read about, I never read about organizations raising money to combat diseases or marches to raise money for research for new drugs to control disease. What I did discover is people ate whole foods and lived a simple life. Processed foods were not available like they are today and big companies didn’t poison the soil that grows our crops.

One thing that truly amazes me is the difference in communication compared to today. I’ve found different health books from the 1800’s and the authors had very little chance to see works by other authors. The amazing thing was they had almost the same exact health plan: eat frugally and eat wholesome foods.

My new book I’m currently writing called“The No Dinner Diet” covers these points. I am convinced you can throw away every diet book available and be confused no longer. It’s very simple:

-Do not eat more than three times a day. Two is best, but not more than three.
-Give at least 4 hours between each meal
-Do not eat within 4 hours of going to sleep. The longer you wait, the better.
-Do not eat when it is dark outside.

When you do eat:
-Do not eat processed foods
-Never eat while stressed
-Chew your food well

Our Creator designed our bodies so amazingly. We need to enjoy life. This doesn’t mean going out and eating anything you want, but don’t lock yourself in your house because you are too worried. Instead of worrying, we need to become aware. We need to also arrange schedules better. More important than the food you eat is how much and when you eat it. Even more important than food is what you really do with your time.

To all those people that feel bad about eating cooked food when I’m at the table, please note that I don’t care what you eat. It doesn’t bother me if you even decide to eat meat. It’s your body. I will never let food get in the way of friendship or family. I eat a raw diet and love it. I eat this way not because I have to, but because I want to. If you are eating a raw food diet because you want to and really enjoy it, that’s wonderful. But never think you must eat 100% raw to be healthy. And you certainly don’t need gimmicks like raw chocolate to get your nutrients. I have a friend who is 107 years old and gets around fine. He in not all raw and he never eats chocolate. I will push, shout and preach about the best diet in the world, the raw food diet, and not eating at nighttime! I know it is the healthiest most natural way we should all eat, but if you decide to eat cooked food and at nighttime, don’t worry. I won’t tell the raw police on you. Enjoy.

The Raw Diet Is Not the Answer

I can’t tell you how frustrating it is becoming to have people on a raw diet contact me for health advice, puzzled why they are still sick or not doing well. They tell me they are "raw," like that’s supposed to mean something.

As I’ve been revealing for years, eating a raw diet means nothing if you are going to overeat, eat at the wrong times and eat unhealthy food, even if it is "raw." So if are eating many green smoothies all day and continuing to eat throughout the night, if you are eating 25 bananas a day, or if most of your diet includes raw junk food like chocolate, dried fruit and raw recipes, stop being so puzzled.

The key to health from a diet standpoint, and from every standpoint, is consistent practice of temperance! The quality of your food is so important. Live, raw food is the highest quality, but you are wasting your time if you are not following the natural capabilities of your body to utilize that food correctly.

I am not knocking the raw food diet. I am knocking people who are being foolish about their approach. Of course you are going to feel better if last week you were eating McDonald's every day, and this week you are eating bananas all day, but it’s still overeating. In the long run, you will run into issues.

It’s foolishness that people believe chocolate is a health food. Chocolate has been deceptively marketed in the raw food community as a healthy super food. Misinformed people are led to believe that it is healthy and others use it to keep themselves stimulated. Be warned, if you keep fooling yourself, you will run into issues.

When I learned about health from Hippocrates Health Institute and other classic health writers, they preached fresh fruits and vegetables. They would laugh at the idea that anyone would suggest chocolate is a health food. It was and always will be a processed junk food.

Those in denial write to me saying that I don’t know the truth, and they are missing the point. Chocolate is a stimulant that is not healthy! That’s the bottom line. My information alone about chocolate isn’t going to save everyone, but at least a few wise people have listened and written me, telling me how much better they feel after they stopped consuming chocolate and believing it’s healthy.

Let’s get to the real issue: overeating! Eating too often and at the wrong times is not healthy. The body can handle a junk food like chocolate if eaten in very small amounts. The same goes for McDonald's and other junk foods. But in larger amounts, it can be deadly. The worse the food, the less the body can handle it. If you are consuming high-quality food, but eating too much, and at the wrong times, damage is still taking place. You just may not notice it right away. Stressing the body organs in any way adds to sickness and disease. I am not promoting McDonald's, but alerting people to the fact that overeating is the real issue we need to overcome!

I’ve learned the hard way. When I started a raw diet, I ate and ate and ate. I ate more durians than anyone I know, and I also overate on fruits and recipes, etc. Thanks to Dr. Fred Bisci and books by Arnold Ehret, I stopped overeating and now finally enjoy the health and energy that many people on a raw food diet lack.

Dr. Fred Bisci explains it well in his new book and DVD. If you are overeating, counting calories, counting percents of food raw, amounts of fat verse sugar, this all means nothing.

Some people ask me why I changed so much over the years. The answer is you must change as your chemistry changes. When I first started eating a raw food diet, I could eat raw recipes all day long. After several years of doing that, I didn’t feel as good when I first started eating raw. I had to eat fewer recipes. I began to combine my foods better and ate less. As I did, I felt better. Then for a period, I ate a lot of mono meals, fruits alone in large amounts. Again, at first I felt great, but after a few years, I didn’t feel good with so much food, even eating mono-meals. I finally realized overtime, as we cleanse, we need less food. I also learned the times we eat our meals have a big impact on our health. When it is dark outside, it’s not healthy to consume food.

I spent so much time talking to Dr. Bisci. I also studied many books on natural health and the best diet for man. Starting with the Bible, I looked back though history to see what diet was best and the wisest way to eat. My new book I’m now working on, “The No Dinner Diet,” will cover the common questions people have and all the info about it, In this newsletter, I wanted to bring attention to one of my health teachers heroes of the past that not too many people know about.

In the 1850's, physician and temperance reformer, Dr. Dio Lewis became a nationally known lecturer on health reform. He taught many of the same things as Sylvester Graham, inventor of the Graham Cracker, another great health teacher, but he added the reform of eating only two meals a day.

To sum up his book written in 1870 “Talks About People's Stomachs,” here are the two main points Dr. Lewis makes in his book about how much to eat and when meals should be eaten. When reading the first answer, keep in mind that back in the 1800’s, when the book was written, dinner was commonly served as a noon-time meal. What we today would call lunch, or our second meal of the day.

How much shall I eat?
You must answer it for yourself. But I had read with earnest interest the advice of the celebrated Dr. Johnson on this point, which is, that every one must observe after dinner, and if he find from his sensations that he has eaten too much, he mustn't do it again.

All these opinions and teachings were interesting and helpful, but they didn't help me much just where I most needed help. I knew very well that, as a habit, I ate too much, the only rule which has ever served me is this: on sitting down at the table, take upon the plate all that you are to eat, and when that is finished, quit.

Is it better to eat at noon, and go to work on a full stomach, or to wait till the day's work is done, and then do the eating?

My advice to all is this; eat but two meals a day, and take the last one in the middle of the day. Digestion requires a certain amount of vital force. Early in the day there is enough to spare, after the brain and muscles are provided for. In the middle of the day, while the forces of physical nature are still high and strong, there is enough left to work, and, in addition, digest a good meal. But as night comes on, and the arms of nature are folded, and the man's vital stock is run out, there is nothing left to digest.

When the hard day's work is done, it is not the right time to fill the stomach with hearty food. The stomach is as tired as other parts of the body, and should be allowed, with the residue of the body to rest, and not be put at six hours of hard work. With this management, the workingman's muscles and back will remain young much longer, while his brain and vision will be clearer and brighter.

One very interesting note, there was a very popular figure in American history who was encouraged by Dr. Dio Lewis’s writings. Lysander Spooner (January 19, 1808 – May 14, 1887) was an American individualist anarchist, entrepreneur, political philosopher, abolitionist, supporter of the labor movement, and legal theorist of the 19th century. He is also known for competing with the U.S. Post Office with his American Letter Mail Company, which was forced out of business by the United States government. As it turns out, Dr. Lewis was a friend of Lysander Spooner, and Spooner features in Lewis' book, "Talks about People's Stomachs" (1870) that I just summed up in the last few paragraphs.

In the book, it says that Lysander Spooner, until the age 50, ate three meals a day, then for nine years, two meals, and for three years, one meal a day. Mr. Spooner has suffered a great deal from stomach troubles during his life until the adoption of the one meal system. With one meal a day, he became bright and cheerful as a boy, and had skin like a baby's. Dr. Lewis said in his book he did not know another man of Lysander Spooner’s age so youthful in spirit.

Spooner’s success at a one-meal-a-day system built his confidence to believe that if workers of all classes would rise early from an eight hours' sleep and digestion, they would be ready for a day's work without further eating until the evening.

Spooner and others performed this one meal a day in the evening with great success during the 1800’s health movement. The key was not overeating. I have found eating no more then one or two meals a day, and only when it is light outside, to work best.

There is no worry about where you will get your nourishment or calories because as the body becomes cleaner, and the quality of the food improves, must less calories are needed. A toxic person eating very little can actually starve themselves if trying to eat little while in the cleansing process. But once the cleansing period is over, people can do great with very little food. Many people today who count calories or eat a lot of meals throughout the day do not understand how this can be, but history proves it and science agrees with it; it’s better to eat less than to eat too much.

I do not expect or suggest people go from eating 5 or 10 times a day to only two times a day over night. The transition should take time, but it should take place. Start understanding this important health message today and devise a plan to help you get started. You’ll be glad you did, and so will your stomach.

The ideal eating times for the "No-Dinner Diet"

People have been asking me, according to the "No Dinner Diet," when is the best time to eat our meals. The answer is when the body is in its natural digestion rhythm. There are two times a day when this happens. This would be the third hour and the ninth hour of daylight. These two times are the ideal times to consume our meals each day. Eating when it is dark outside is the worst time to eat.

Eating the third and ninth hour of daylight may seem unusual because it is not the customary eating times we are used to. For example, eating morning, afternoon and night time. Also, it is only two times a day as opposed to the traditional three meals per day. As long as the quality of the food is very high, two meals a day should been sufficient for our nutritional needs. Eating many meals throughout the day, big or small, never lets our system digest its last meal and rest.

Snacking or eating between meals is not healthy. Two meals a day, at the third and ninth hour times allows our body to get the nutrition it needs, while giving it a chance to rest. Getting to bed and rising at the correct times becomes is also vital to our health. I will talk about that in another blog.

When exactly is the third and ninth hour of daylight?

According to the man-made clock, the third hour usually falls somewhere between 7 and 9 a.m. for our first meal, and the 9th hour between 2-4 p.m. for our second meal. Because Yahweh’s (God's) timetable begins and is calculated by a different method (sunrise and sunset), you are really not eating at a different phase of the day, because no matter what the man-made clock says, you will always be eating the 3rd and 9th hour of daylight.

Some health books suggest certain meal times, but never take into account that Yahweh’s (God's) times are decided by the sun and moon. For instance, eating at 7 a.m. every day could be light outside for one season and dark the next. As suggested, it’s never good to eat when it’s dark outside. The wonderful news about Yahweh’s eating pattern is it will always be light when eating. Yahweh never changes and we can continue to follow His divine plan for when the ideal time is to eat.

Depending upon what part of the world you live in and the season, the times of the day to enjoy your meals will be different. Even though there are 12 hours in the day and 12 hours in the night, there are not 60 minutes always in an hour. That is a man-made idea. The time of the sunrise and sunset should decide how long an hour truly is.

Only on the equator are there equal amounts of daylight and darkness. But anywhere else in the world it’s not equal and always changing. In the winter time, there are more hours of darkness, and in the summer there is more light. So how do you tell what the true third hour and ninth hour are?
Simply, find a calendar or weather site that documents the sunrise and sunset times. Once you have those times, it’s easy to figure it out. I’ll give a simple example;

Suppose the sunrise is 6 a.m. and sunset is 6 p.m. In this case, the third hour of daylight would start at 8 a.m and the 9th hour would be 2 p.m.

Now for a more completed example, suppose sunrise was 6:33 am and sunset 8:17 pm
1-If 12 hours = 720 minutes
2-Add extra minutes, example about sunrise 6:33 a.m and sunset 8:17 p.m = 104 extra minutes
3-Add 720 + 104 = 824 minutes
4-Divde that by 12, that’s the “true total minutes” in an hour (68 minutes)
5-Starting from the time of sunrise counting each hour using 68 minutes in each hour and that’s how you calculate beginning of 3rd and 9th of each day.
6:33am + 68 + 68=8:49 am beginning of the 3rd hour
6:33am + 68 + 68 + 68 + 68 + 68 + 68 + 68 + 68= 3:37 pm beginning of 9th hour
(There is a wonderful website that you can use, just put in the time of the sunset and sunrise and it will do the calculations for you: www.the-branch.org. (You can also download an excel sheet that will help you figure out the times each day)

*As an initial step, get in the habit of not eating when it is dark outside or after a certain time, for example 6 p.m.

*To start, if you cannot figure the times exactly, try eating at 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 pm everyday, but keep in mind the true times change each day.

*If that is too hard, try to eat just two (or three only if you must) meals a day but not within one hour of waking up and 5 hours of going to sleep. That doesn’t mean, eat late at night and stay up later. Your last meal of the day should be no later than 6pm to start, but the earlier the better.

*Never eat when it is dark outside. So in the wintertime your last meal may be 3 or 4 pm.

*If you have a nighttime job, consider the impact this has on your health. If you cannot change to a daytime job, at least eat as close to sunset and sunrise as possible, and try not to eat at other times.

We are all are in diverse situations
Each person is in a different situation and the condition of our own body is never identical to anyone else’s, so we have to pay attention and give our own body the attention it needs. Not based on what everyone else is doing, but based on what it requires. Yahweh planned us to all live according to the same divine schedule. No matter our situation, the plan dose not adjust to our situation. We have to alter our circumstance to fit His divine plan for our life. No matter how different the stages of our health may be, there is a universally ideal time to consume our food. Just like every rhythm of life, the time never changes based on how we feel or when day light savings time may be according to man-made clocks. The immortal times never change.

However, the conditions of our bodies are at different stages because of how we have treated it in the past. Where a person is, concerning the amount of vitality we have or lack of it, will determine the exact type of diet we require. We each require different amounts and types of food. A person sick and lacking nutrients will need a much different food plan then a healthy person who has been eating a healthy diet for many years. No matter what the state of your body and the history of your diet, we all deserve the best quality food for our particular situation. We will talk more later about the quality of food, but keep in mind the best times to eat those foods are the same for everyone.

Even though we have all been designed to keep the same eating and sleeping pattern for ideal health, during our daily life we each have different chores and jobs each day. For some of us switching our eating and sleeping patterns will be simple because we have a lot of free time to do so. For others, it may not be as easy due to our hectic lifestyle. For instance, a single person with no job will have a much easier time than a big family where both parents are working. Sometimes our jobs may not coincide with Yahweh’s schedule.

It takes time to adjust, and depending on the positions we are in, some of us may be able to adjust sooner then others. We each have to decide for ourselves what is truly feasible or what are we doing out of habit. If your family is in the habit of eating dinner around 8 p.m. every night, that’s not a healthy habit. However, if everyone is working until 7 p.m., at the present time it may not be feasible to eat together before 8 p.m.. This does not make it wise to live against Yahweh’s schedule just because we have a good excuse to do so. If Yahweh truly wanted each of us to live according to His timetable, and you asked Him in prayer to show you how, HE will reveal the answer.

A good, practical adjustment to the above situation may be to adjust the meal that the family has together, if that is what is important. Instead of having dinner be the family meal, have the morning meal be the time everyone eats together. Most people working later into the evening usually start their day later, so instead of each person eating breakfast at different times and eating dinner together, maybe you can all eat breakfast together and take a late lunch at your jobs by yourself and enjoy your last meal of the day at a healthier time.

I do not expect everyone to be able to switch their schedule and turn their habits over night. Some of you may never decide to change, but we can all make some adjustments to help. Some suggestions may be to no loner eat anything after dinner. This is an unhealthy, but common habit. Or try going for a walk in the morning before the jumping out of bed and right into the kitchen for a meal. It’s very important we evaluate our own situations, but even more importantly, to consider what Yahweh designed our body for, and to do our best to stick to that plan.

Raising Children on a raw food diet

Happy New Year,

I'm so excited. Any day now my wife is going to give birth to our first baby. She is due Jan. 14th but we are on full alert. A great friend of mine just visited us from North Carolina and she has two amazing children. I asked her about raising children on a raw food diet and here is her reply.
